What is telematics?
Telematics is a technology suite that helps businesses collect, transmit and analyze data from various remote devices through the use of telecommunications and information processing. This technology can include a wealth of real-time information on the devices it tracks, such as vehicles. This information can include the remote devices’ location, speed, maintenance status and fuel levels.
“Our typical customer performs their key operations out in the field and telematics provides a lens into the performance of the physical assets driving those operations,” said Peter Mitchell, the general manager of Verizon Connect, Verizon’s fleet management software. “From a technology perspective, telematics combines telecommunications, software and data analytics to transform vehicle management, driver training and fleet safety.”
